The R1 version is the remastered audio version. It has chapter stops, which comes in handy when skipping the recaps that take place at the beginning of each episode. I like the story, but found the video very soft, so I bought the R2, but..

The R2 DVD version of Slayers is way below expectation, regardless of its price (4300 yen in Jun 2003; ~US$36 for 4 episodes). It was released in Jun 1999, what can I say? Luckily, I bought only one disc. Next time, I will be wary of DVD releases before the year 2001.

Time R1 DVD R2 DVD
ep 1, 0:11:08 Where our journey begins. Gourry meets Lina for the first time.

Very soft.

ep 1, 0:20:52 Our heroes on the run after doing a good deed. :-)
ep 5, 1:32:01 A night shot.

Lina is imprisoned here in one of her vulnerable periods, so to speak. ;-)

ep 12, 0:02:40 The R1 and R2 are equally soft. In addition, the R2 has marginally stronger EE. ep 12, 0:02:28
ep 14, 0:16:31 Despite the higher bitrate, I feel the R2 has slightly worse video quality. ep 14, 0:16:19
ep 14, 0:20:30 The R2 is a shade darker. ep 14, 0:20:17
